About Pastoral Care:
Pastoral Care personnel offer support and counseling to patients, families and staff members at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, which helps them come to terms with illness, anxiety, grief and spiritual manners. The Pastoral Care staff, unique in size among Northern Kentucky and most Greater Cincinnati hospitals, consists of both Catholic and non-Catholic members. The department provides inpatient visits, the sacraments and interfaith services, as well as various support services and groups.
Our Commitment:
St. Elizabeth Medical Center is committed to meeting the needs of patients, families and staff - physical, emotional, spiritual.
The Pastoral Care Department, staffed by chaplains and associate chaplains, including Catholic and Protestant members trained in hospital ministry, all available to provide support and counsel.
The department works closely with area churches and will, at the patient/family's direction, inform the priest/minister/rabbi of a patient's congregation that he or she is a patient at St. Elizabeth. For Catholic patients, the sacraments are available upon request.
When Should I Request Help?
A Chaplain's help should be requested when a patient or family needs support coping with an illness or surgery; when a patient is informed of a difficult diagnosis or poor prognosis; when an individual and family learn they must manage a chronic illness; when an individual expresses feelings of guilt, shame, or other spiritually identified emotions; when a patient is approaching death, or at the time of death; when the loss of an infant occurs through miscarriage, stillbirth or death; when someone is confronted with a difficult ethical or moral decision; and for those in need of religious support.
